Psalm 1
I find much value in slowing down, and focusing on. . . meditating on a passage of Scripture for an extended period of time. Especially in times of uncertainty, there is great comfort and peace in meditating on the Word of God.
I've been working on Psalm 1 for more than a week now. Memorizing its verses as I drive to and from work each day. Relationships, implications, connotations for me only become apparent after much chewing on them.
The psalm starts out, "Blessed is the man", and then lists three attributes of a blessed man.
1. He doesn't walk in the counsel of the ungodly. . . he doesn't take advice or teaching from a morally wrong person. His walk, my Pastor spoke on this last Sunday. . . your walk is your daily activity.
2. He doesn't stand. . . stop for a moment on the road, the avenue of the sinners. If this blessed man finds himself in their domain, he keeps moving, not spending any more time than necessary there. . . not stopping or slowing down.
3. He especially doesn't sit or relax or take his rest in the abode, or dwelling place of the mockers or scoffers.
Rather he takes pleasure, in the words of God, and he fills his mind with, allows those words to speak to him around the clock.
V3 The result of the blessed man's efforts, is that he will in be a lovely growing place, where being planted by the rivers of life giving water, where he is insulated from drought. He will have the strength and resources to bring forth the seeds of the next generation, without diminishing his vitality and strength. With such a foundation, he will be a success at what ever he puts his hand to.
V4 The morally sick, will have a different path. Rather than having the substance of seed, they are as empty husks which the wind. . . the breath. . . the spirit which disperses, drives away, wasted and not to be saved.
V5 Therefore as a result, there is a separation between the morally deficient, and the righteous. They are not to be found together at the time of the accounting before God.
V6 God is well acquainted with, familiar with the path. . . the lives of those who follow Him, the way of the morally wrong have led themselves have led them to be undone, in a dead end of their lives.
Slow down. . . spend time, chew on the Word of God, get all the goodness that you can out of it. . .
Thank You my God. . .
Thank You for Your Word. . .
