Immediately after verse 4 of the second chapter of Genesis:
Genesis 2:4 KJV These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
We are now given a new title for God. . . LORD God in English, Jehovah Elohim in Hebrew. Why at this point? Why was it just God, Elohim, all through creation, and now that creation is finished and God rested, the holy unutterable, unspellable Name of God, Jehovah is given to us?
LORD, Jehovah, is indeed the most common word. . .the name of God, being found 6521 times on the pages of the Old Testament, but not found even once in the first chapter of Genesis.
What’s going on here? Jehovah is translated as LORD. Elohim is translated as God. God is a Spirit. A Spirit which accomplished all the miraculous acts of creation. The firmament, the stars, and planets, the plants, fishes, and animals of the land were created by God, but they had no need of a LORD. They all operate by instinct, and fulfilling their inherent design, and nature.
Only with the appearance of man was God’s LORDship possible. His being God was/is not an option. He created everything, including you and me regardless of whether we believe in Him or accept Him. He is God. His being our LORD is about our submission to Him and is a voluntary personal decision on our part. After He created us, THEN He gave us His own holy and personal name, Jehovah.
I spent the first 45 years of my life as an atheist, until one day He gave me a vision, where I saw that across all those years he was still with me. . . protecting me. Time after time after time, I saw scenes from my life when I should have been in huge trouble, even killed, and every time something ‘lucky’ happened to save me from disaster.
I did not believe in Him, but regardless of my disbelief, He was still my Elohim. . .my God, my Creator, but it wasn’t until my unbelief was dispelled and my eyes were opened to my foolishness, that He became my LORD God, my Jehovah Elohim. I submitted to His authority. . . I bent my knee to Him.
I love You my Jehovah Elohim. . .
Thank You for saving me. . .
Dave
