Father
Father
I love doing Bible word studies. This morning I did a search in the KJV Bible for ‘father’. It is found 1126 times in 970 verses. In the Old Testament it is found 757 times in 644 verses. In the New Testament it is found 369 times in 326 verses.
The Hebrew word translated as ‘Father’ is:
Strong’s dictionary:
H1
אָב
'âb
awb
A primitive word; father in a literal and immediate, or figurative and remote application: - chief, (fore-) father ([-less]), X patrimony, principal. Compare names in “Abi-”
Total KJV occurrences: 1214
The Strong’s dictionary words are arranged alphabetically, so the Hebrew word for “Father” so H1 is the first word in the Strong's Hebrew dictionary.
In the 757 times that it is found in the Old Testament, it is only capitalized (referring to God) once in the following verse:
Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
In the New Testament 242 times of the 326 verses it is capitalized, again referring to God. Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would be called “the everlasting Father” as “the mighty God” when there was no Hebrew tradition recorded in the Bible of referring to God in that specific way.
This is such a powerful verse. Isaiah states this child which was born, this given son’s name would be: Wonderful Counsellor and The mighty God and The everlasting Father and The prince of peace. All these labels would be applied to Jesus.
Matthew 1:23 KJV Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Colossians 2:9 KJV For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
1 Timothy 3:16 KJV And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
I love the Word of God. There are layers upon layers of meaning. Always something new to discover, when you begin digging into the Word of God.
Thank You God for Your Word. . .
I love You my God. . .
