25th Anniversary of My Being Filled with God's Spirit

Image
I spoke at our church August 17th, 2025, which was the 25th anniversary of my being filled with God's Spirit.  Here are my notes:   2025-08-17 Good morning all.  I give a special good morning to my family members who have come today to help celebrate this day with me. A couple of months ago Pastor asked if I could teach on 4 dates over the coming months.  The only one I had an issue with was August 10th.  Jackie and I were planning on going camping that weekend.  He then asked if I would be available August 17th, and I said yes. It wasn’t until a few days later that I realized the significance of that day, this day, for it was 25 years ago today, August 17th of 2000 that I was filled with God’s Spirit.  I was 46 years old.  Jackie and I had recently come to God.  I had been an unbeliever for most of the first 45 years of my life.  Jackie was a Christian lady.  We had been together for 10 years, and she had prayed for my conversion, ...

The Hand of God

Image
I recently read this quote of Albert Einstein's: “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” I lived the first 45 years of my life as a hard-core atheist. I knew there was no God. In a series of amazing occurrences, God revealed Himself to me, and my unbelief was gone. The above quote perfectly describes the two halves of my life (coming to God @ 45 years old, if I live to be 90, it will be two halves). . . In the first half everything was luck, or random chance. The second half, the scales have been lifted from my eyes, and I see the hand of God in everything around me. . . God gave me a vision of maybe 12-15 happenings in my early life, where I should have been seriously hurt, even killed, or in great trouble, and every single time something 'lucky' happened to prevent disaster. Looking at them only one at a time, I could attribute them to random chance, or luck, but seen all togeth...

A Measurement Standard. . .

Image
A kilogram is currently defined by a standard cylinder of platinum-iridium alloy which is kept at the International bureau of weights and measures near Paris, France. On May 20th of this year a new definition will replace the platinum-iridium artifact association. The new definition will be: taking the fixed numerical value of the Planck constant h to be 6.62607015×10−34 when expressed in the unit J⋅s, which is equal to kg⋅m2⋅s−1, where the metre and the second are defined in terms of c and ΔνCs. A second is defined as the amount of time a cesium-133 atom takes to vibrate 9,192,631,770 times. A compass points to the magnetic pole of the earth to determine the direction north. A meter is defined as 1,650,763.73 wavelengths of orange-red light, in a vacuum, produced by burning the element krypton-86. In each of these cases, a measurement is determined by something outside of what is being measured. . . something independent of the measurer. Where am I going with this? For t...

The Advantages of being a Christian. . .

I spent the first 45 years of my life mostly not believing in God. I knew there was no God. There was no chance I was wrong. . .All that has changed. . . my eyes have been opened. . . I once was blind, but now I see. . . I smile when I read the news stories about the latest atheistic best selling book on the New York Times book list. I was so intelligent. I knew so much. My logic was so certain. The one thing that I never stopped to consider was that the foundation my philosophical structure was built upon was sand. . . Jesus talks as recorded in Matthew 7:27 about the foolish man who built his house upon sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. All atheism is built upon an unknown. That is not a solid foundation. An atheist does not believe in God therefore he says there is no God. In a manner of speaking the atheist places himself in the center of the universe. I am not casting s...
