My favorite way of studying the Bible, is to sit in my easy chair, with my Bible, a notebook, a concordance and look up all the Scripture references for a particular word. I love letting Scripture define words with spiritual contexts. When I find relevant verses, I hand write them in my notebook. I surely could do this faster on my computer with E-Sword Bible software, but reading and studying the Bible isn’t about seeing how fast and efficient you can be, but to me, it is more importantly about allowing the Word of God to sink as deeply as possible into your soul. I greatly like the hand writing of the verses. . .often times, I will copy 5 or more verses to provide the proper context of the passage. As I letter each word of Scripture my mind is intently focused upon what I am writing. . .lol. . .savoring each jot and tittle as it were of God’s Word. In my devotions a few days ago, I found the following verse. Hosea 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. Cast forth seeds of right doing. Cultivate the ground and plant for yourself, not for another master, not for sale in the market. . . but plant and grow for your own nutrition and sustenance. Grow these crops for your own daily bread. Let this work of your hands be acts of rightness and justice and honor. Of this seed will grow a crop of undeserved forgiveness from God. As much as we may try to live righteous and holy lives, we still fall short of perfection and need repentance and forgiveness.
